Notion
How your agents answer from the Notion pages and databases you share with them, and stay in step as your teams update them.
On this page
If your teams write their guides and procedures in Notion, your agents can answer customers from them. The agent sees only the pages and databases you share with it, and answers only from what they say. As your teams edit those pages, the agent's knowledge follows, so what customers hear matches what your team has written.
What the connection lets the agent do
| Action | What it means for you | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Answer from your pages | The agent finds the relevant passage in your pages and databases and answers from it | What a desert safari package includes |
| Keep in step with changes | When a page is updated, added or removed, the agent's knowledge is updated to match | A new meeting point for a tour is used once the page changes |
| Answer only from approved sources | The agent answers from the material you have shared, not from general knowledge | A question about another operator's tours is not answered from guesswork |
| Say when the answer is not there | If your pages do not cover a question, the agent says so and offers a person | A request for a private tour with special access goes to your team |
How it connects
The connection uses Notion's standard API (application programming interface: the documented way other software exchanges data with it), through a dedicated integration your workspace administrators create and control. In Notion, an integration can see only the pages and databases that are explicitly shared with it, so your team decides the scope page by page. The access is read-only.
The shared pages are indexed (organised so the agent can find the right passage quickly), and the index is held in your deployment, in your chosen region. Credentials are stored encrypted in your deployment, and every call travels over TLS 1.2 or higher (Transport Layer Security, which encrypts data in transit). Your pages stay in Notion.
Permissions
| Permission | Needed for | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Read shared pages and databases | Answering from your content | Only what you share with the integration |
| Detect changes to those pages | Keeping in step | On for what you share |
| Create, edit or delete pages | Not needed | Not granted |
The agent can only take actions your team has granted. Anything not granted cannot be invoked. See Permissions.
In practice
Nakhla Travel writes its tour guides and package inclusions in Notion.
- The operations team shares two items with the integration: the "Tour guides" page and the "Package inclusions" database.
- Joud asks on WhatsApp whether the AlUla package includes entry to Hegra. The agent answers from the package inclusions.
- The team adds a hot-air balloon option to the package page. The agent picks up the change.
- When Joud asks whether the tour can start earlier to avoid the midday heat, the pages do not cover it, so the agent offers her a consultant.
What your team controls
- Which pages and databases are shared with the integration.
- Removing a page from the agent's knowledge, by un-sharing it.
- Withdrawing access, at any time, in Notion.
